Current Favorite Podcasts – October 2018

I have been cruising through podcasts lately. I always listen to them when I have a long drive. Lately, I’ve had to drive so much for work. But lucky for you guys that means I have a handful of podcasts to reccomend!

ZigZag is unlike any other podcast I’ve ever listened to. I don’t even know how I came across it because it is so different. I honestly think I accidentally subscribed. But I am glad I did! In their own words, “ZigZag is a podcast about changing the course of capitalism, journalism, and women’s lives.” These two women who left stable broadcasting jobs are podcasting about starting up a new type of media company in this day and age. It revolves a lot around cryptocurrency. Which I have to say I had little to no knowledge of before listening. I find it fascinating to hear about the evolution of their company and cryptocurrency including the block chain.

The Mortified Podcast literally has me laughing out loud. And I’m not even kidding. I will be driving in my car just cracking up. There was one time I was on a cool down walk after a job listening when I started laughing so hard out loud that I was literally crying. It was almost embarrassing, except, it was so funny I couldn’t even care. Also,  thankfully I was wearing sunglasses. FYI: I was listening to episode 21 during this incident – HIGHLY reccomend starting with this one. This podcast is people reading things they wrote as kids or teenagers out loud in front of an audience. It could be a diary entry, letter, school project, anything. Whatever they are reading is undoubtedly embarrassing whether its about their first kiss, summer camp, their best friend or their job. I listen to so much true crime that I love having this lighthearted laugh out loud podcast to turn to when I’ve had a little too much of the dark stuff. I would love to go to one of their live shows!

But I can never stay away from the true crime genre too long. I binged through about 40 some odd episodes of Suspect Convictions lately. The host, Scott Reeder, is a long time midwestern crime journalist. He was actually one of the first on scene when a young girl’s body was discovered in an infamous 1990’s Iowa murder case. He started this podcast when the guy convicted of this murder was granted a new trial for the crime. He breaks down the different elements of the evidence and how it may or may not have been mishandled by the police. Since starting the podcast, he has delved into other crimes as well. His focus is on how convictions may have been made under suspect circumstances (hence the name). His midwestern accent is hilarious sometimes. But it is a pretty good true crime podcast. I definitely reccomend it.

And some of my classic favorites have brand new bad ass seasons going on right now. Someone Knows Something has a new season tracking a cold case about a 15 year old girl who went missing from a house party in 1986 and was later found murdered. Up and Vanished has a new series tracking a cold missing persons case in Colorado. Lastly, Serial has a new season looking at our complicated and broken criminal justice system by focusing on a Cleveland courthouse. Sarah Koenig is an absolute genius.

P.S. Still obsessed with these Beats if you are looking for a new headphone.
