First up, The Thousandth Floor by Katharine McGee! It turns out this is the first book in a series. I didn’t know that when I stumbled upon it. But I am happy to hear it! I am pretty sure it is geared towards Young Adults or Teens but I wouldn’t let that deter you if you aren’t YA or a teen. I’m not and it I still enjoyed it! The book is basically a futuristic Gossip Girl. It takes place a hundred or so years in the future in New York City. It follows a group of richie rich kids through their scandalous lives and specifically one dirty little secret that blows up. I am not usually a big fan of futuristic type stuff but this book got me hook line and sinker. I can’t wait to dig in to the next book in the series.
Next in August, I read Y: A Novel but Marjorie Celona. This was kind of a sad book in some ways. Not your usual summer beach read. But now that its almost fall and the weather will be turning crisper this could just be the read for you guys. It follows a foundling through her childhood from her point of view. It portrays how she sees the world while she tries to understand it and tries to uncover her history. It has kind of a real ending which I like. It doesn’t tie everything up in a neat nice bow. It is a little messy just like life.
Finally, I closed out August by reading an older book that has been on my list for awhile – The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. This book was originally published back in 2012 and a movie came out in 2014. So if you’ve read this and it is old news then aren’t you special. If you haven’t read it yet then the rest of this paragraph is for you! Talk about a tearjerker. It is about two quirky teenagers who are dying of cancer meet at a support group and their whirlwind relationship that follows. It is a tragic love story but it is so moving and romantic. I highly reccomend this one as long as you have a full box of tissues in the house.
I am already half way through my next book for October’s Book Club. And I already can’t wait to tell you guys about it! What have you been reading lately? What should I add to my ‘to-read’ list?
