I keep hearing dudes every where saying “Saturday’s are for the boys.” I don’t know the exact origin of this phrase but it cracks me up. Little do they know “Saturday’s are for the boys” only because women decided unconsciously long ago that Saturday’s are for the Girls. So men by default also get to enjoy the day with their own kind. Girls want to go shopping with other girls and girls want to get brunch with other girls. And Saturday’s are for shopping and brunching. It’s just that simple. Sorry, Boys!
But I digress. There has been rumblings about some bagels in Boston for quite some time now. I’ve always been a big fan of the gluten so I decided to finally trek out to Jamaica Plain to check out Exodus Bagels. They are a pop up bagel joint at the Egleston Farmer’s Market in Jamaica Plain every weekend. It happened to be the most glorious day ever. It was like the stars aligned so that I could enjoy the perfect mid-morning meal on the perfect day with some pretty perfect gal pals. I heard that you can get bagels until they sell out and then they are done for the day. So as I walked towards the farmer’s market and witness tons of people walking back with Exodus Bagel’s bags I started to get nervous as it was almost 11:30AM. When I rounded the corner and saw the size of the line coming from their tent I was really nervous! I had my heart set on a bagel so I hopped into the back of the line and texted my friends something along the lines of “Need bagel, long line, hurry up.” I’m a real wordsmith sometimes. Luckily, they arrived before I had to throw any ‘bows to make space for them.
Back to the perfect day part of this story. There was a Commonwealth Cold-Brew Coffee cart mid-way through the line. They nailed their location. We grabbed a couple of Iced pumpkin spice cold-brew coffees to enjoy with our bagels. I’m not usually a flavor coffee gal but it was Fall and sometimes you just need to get in the spirit. Plus, I told my friend to “surprise me” and that’s what she ordered. This caffeinated nectar of the gods was the most perfect liquid that has ever touched my lips. OK, I may be exaggerating a little bit. But it was delicious. It wasn’t too overly flavorful. It was a very subtle pumpkin spice flavor. And it paired with my bagel and Fall day feelings perfectly.
I have to say for the amount of people waiting in line for bagels it went pretty quickly. I got an everything bagel with veggie dip spread and the works (greens, onion, tomato, etc.). And again, once we placed our orders it was a very short wait for them to be completed. The wait was worth every millisecond though. We walked over to some benches and got grubbing. The bagel was scrumptious. There wasn’t a scrap left except maybe a few rogue poppy seeds that made there way into my lap. My companions got jalapeño bagels and I already can’t wait to go back to try those. They looked just as good with their big hunks of jalapeño baked into the bagel. I’m drooling just thinking about it. The price of the bagels was on point for what you get as well. The tomato and greens were fresh as can be. Don’t worry we walked off the bagels by going for a walk on the Southwest Corridor.
The good news is that Exodus is getting its own brick and mortar joint in Roslindale. I will anxiously be awaiting the grand opening. But until then, it’s off to JP on Saturday’s for this delicious carb loading.
